Serenity by Candlelight is an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting held each Friday evening at the Fellowship Centre. Those attending AA meetings share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they can stay sober and help others get and stay sober. This meeting, illuminated only by candlelight, starts with a brief meditation period. This helps those attending relax and clear their minds of the mental and emotional clutter of the day. The meeting chairperson asks those in attendance for two topics to help focus the discussion, although everyone is free to share whatever they need to say to a safe and understanding group of like-minded people. Discussion topics might include, for example, the benefits of gratitude and the importance of honesty. All are welcome regardless of the nature or extent of their addiction or recovery. There is no cost to attend, although all AA meetings ask for voluntary donations to support the meeting.
