The Plain Language Big Book Study is a 60-minute Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting held at the Fellowship Centre every Thursday at 6:30 PM. The book Alcoholics Anonymous, first published in 1939, forms the basis for most recovery programs that include the term anonymous (for example, Overeaters Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous). The book Alcoholics Anonymous is referred to as the Big Book because it was originally published on thick paper and appeared to be a very big book. The most important parts of the Big Book have not changed since first published in 1939; some find the language dated and difficult to understand. In 2024 the Plain Language Big Book was published. This meeting uses this new publication to guide understanding and use of the original AA message of recovery. Copies of the Plain Language Big Book are provided at this meeting.
All are welcome at this people-helping-people-meeting, regardless of the nature or extent of their addiction or recovery. There is no cost to attend, although all AA meetings ask for voluntary donations to support the meeting.
